Workplace Adaptation/Arrangements

Content

The aim of the unit is to train the participants on the practical arrangements needed in order to make the workplace accessible to everyone.

Objectives

Attendants will be able to:

  • Learn about the necessary arrangements in the working environment.

  • Adapt the physical environment to allow for easier access to persons with visual impairments.

  • Develop interpersonal competencies for inclusive interactions with your visually impaired colleagues.

  • Make training and material accessible.

Time

80 minutes

Advice for the organiser

The organiser should know in advance which type of devices are preferred by the participants and should be familiar with the basic operation of them.

  • Try to focus on the functionality of the tools more than technical aspects.

  • Encourage the participants to help one another and share their findings.

  • Do not take the participants’ knowledge about the use of their devices for granted. Double-check their development in the use of the tools.

Learning methodologies

Mini lectures, class discussions, hands-on activities, simulations.

Resources available/ needed

       

  • Smartphones, tablets or laptops for all the participants.

  • Assistive technology software installed (if applicable).

  • A good quality WiFi network with a reliable Internet connection.

  • Chairs with desk attached or U-shaped table with chairs for all the participants.

At the end of the workshop session the participant shall:

  • Learn about making the working environment an accessible place.

Skills

  • Adapt/arrange the physical working environment in a more universally accessible way.

  • Be inclusive when interacting with your visually impaired colleagues.

Competences

  • Be able to create a friendly workplace environment to persons with visual impairments.
