The unit aims to train participants in having a proactive attitude towards the European legislation and regulations that determine the employment of young people with visual impairments.

Objectives

Attendants will be able to:

  • Orientate within the ecosystem of websites dedicated to facilitating the access of young VIPs to the job market;
  • To search for and comprehend specific laws and regulations that promote the access of VIPs to the job market on different levels;
  • Understand the importance of being updated on incentives that facilitate the access of young VIPs to the job market;
  • Prepare accessible training material and present understandable information for all the target groups involved.

Advice for the organiser

Unit 1 gives a theoretical overview presenting European and national legislation that facilitate the access of young VIPs to the job market. The latter legislation, together with the specific policies and regulations, represents the framework for the core activities of Session 3, namely Unit 1 and Unit 3.

The trainer should be familiar with the proposed websites and their functionality. 

Learning methodologies

Short frontal lectures with visual/audio support, class discussions, practical activities.

Resources available/ needed

  • Good quality WiFi network with a reliable Internet connection
  • Projector
  • Coffee tables and Chairs set in a semi-circle
  • Smart phones, tablets or laptops for all participants.
  • Assistive technology software installed if required.

Learning outcomes

At the end of the workshop session the participant shall:

Knowledge

  • Identify websites with content related to easing access of young VIPs to the job market. The websites should focus on the rights and possibilities granted by European and national legislation in each country.

Skills

  • Effective internet search strategies to identify policies and legislation that can facilitate young VIPs’ employment.

Competences

  • Proactivity in identifying legislation and policies that facilitate access of young VIPs to the job market.
  • Continuous update on incentives and connected legislation that may facilitate the access of young VIPs to the labour market.
  • Understanding the benefits of using resources and information available online to design an active job-seeking strategy for young VIPs.
