Answer:

Yes, you can apply directly. Keep in mind, applying directly will only be possible with companies that have registered on the platform. Companies or organisation that have not signed onto the platform can be sent a link for the CV.


Question:

Can I download my CVs from the VIPTechJob Web App?

Answer:

It is currently not possible to download a copy of the CV from the Web App, however, future versions will allow this function. Currently you can send a link to a prospective job offer and that person will be able to view the online information that you have made visible to prospective employers.

No, you don't need an account to access the Toolbox. Guests access is allowed in this platform.

There is a notification button at the bottom of the VIPTechJob Web App. Jaws readers will notify the user whether the push notifications are activated or not.

How do I create an account in VIPTechJob Web App?

Answer:

To create an account, you must visit the website: VIPTechJob – Web App – Helping Visually Impaired People to find a job and then click on the tab LOGIN and then in the submenu CREATE AN APPLICANT ACCOUNT. You will be asked to fill in five boxes NAME, USERNAME, PASSWORD, REPEAT PASSWORD and EMAIL. You must choose a username and password and then repeat the password again to verify it. We would recommend you let the browser to save the password for future ease of access. Important be careful with your password selection. It must contain at least 8 characters of which there has to be at least one capital letter, one lowercase letter, one number and one symbol.


Question:

How do I delete a VIPTechJob Web App account I do not use anymore?

Answer:

To delete an account, once logged in, you must go to Home page VIPTechJob – Web App – Helping Visually Impaired People to find a job and then go to the ACCESSIBLE MENU then you need to click on the submenu DELETE MY ACCOUNT. Once you have clicked this you will be redirected another option that says “ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO DELETE YOUR ACCOUNT”. Once you have pressed this button there is no way to undo this action and all your details and CVs will be deleted from the server.

How do I upload an adequate picture for my online CV if I am visually impaired?

Answer:

A good picture is an important part of a CV. Although in certain European countries a picture is not necessary or obligatory. Many European countries do tend to use photos on CVs. It is important for the users of the platform to ask a sighted person with this task. The sighted person can advise the visually impaired person on how they photo looks and with other small aesthetic things such as cropping or lighting of the photo.

How to explain your disability to a potential employer?

Answer:

Prepare a disability statement that gives a little bit of information about what you can see or how you compensate for not being able to see, but mostly focus on your abilities and capacity to do the job. Explain how you accomplish tasks differently than fully sighted workers but can still stay competitive.

Our Toolbox can be used by both VIP (Visually Impaired People) and sighted people. Both groups will find useful information and resources regarding accessibility and job market issues.

There is a step-by-step guide for the creation of CVs in the VIPTechJob Training Platform. The CV trainer give the user a walk through of all the features and information that they should include in their CVs. This tutorial will orientate the user in what and how they should present their information to potential employers.

It is important to create more than one CV. Employers are usually looking for a certain profile in their candidates and it is important to highlight the qualities you have and how they could be transferred to the job position being offered. It is important to have multiple CVs to be able to avail of different job offers and positions.

The CVs that you can create on the VIPTechJob Web App are already formatted. All the users must do is enter the information and it will automatically fill in the spaces on the CV for the user. If the user has certificates or documents, you must explain that you have them and attach them separately another email or letter.

Answer:

It depends on several factors but first examine the company culture, mission and values. If you think that your disability might be seen as an added-value or a strength by the company, then you can decide to mention it in the CV / cover letter. Otherwise, we advise you not to mention your disability in the CV/cover letter if you are not sure it is a strength point for the job vacancy.

Why is it important to explain your skills to the employers?

Answer:

Informing employers about your skills both soft and hard helps them understand that you have autonomy and that you will be able to do the job properly. It is also necessary to inform the employer in case of specific needs (computer with adapted programs etc.)
